System specialist for large storage environments and data sync & share

To support research and teaching, the IT Services of ETH Zurich operate as a service organization in a large and complex IT environment. We offer ETH Zurich members high-quality, flexible and scalable IT services to help them compete with the best universities in the world.

The section ID Infrastructure (INFRA) is responsible for the the data and voice networks of ETH Zurich as well as for the planning, installation and their maintenance. It is also responsible for services in the areas of storage, virtual servers / containers, multimedia equipment of lecture halls, video productions and recordings of lectures. In addition, the IT Security Center uses preventive methods and reactive processes to monitor the delivery and usage of IT services throughout ETH Zurich.

Job description

To strengthen our storage services group team, we are looking for an experienced and committed personality as a specialist in storage systems and data sync % share, immediately or by mutual appointment.

The Storage Services group is responsible for the provision of resilient central storage services at ETH.

We offer you an exciting opportunity to be part of the team in the setup, provision and system management of ETH's central online storage facilities (30 PB+).

Your main tasks include supporting applications in the complex storage infrastructure. As a specialist, you are the contact person for system technical questions, modern concepts in data storage, cyber resilience and their implementation in the company. Technical negotiations with manufacturers support the management of storage services.
Customer-oriented consultations on the management and security of research and administrative data are commonplace and require persuasiveness and communication skills

This exciting and varied activity involves providing reliable and efficient operation of IT systems. Creating concepts and standard procedures as well as working on and managing projects round off the task profile of this interesting and demanding position. Your participation in infrastructure specialist committees helps solve complex problems.

Your profile

In order to successfully carry out these diverse tasks, we expect you to have the following skills in addition to a completed higher level of specialist training in computer science, a university or technical college degree in computer science or related disciplines

  • You have in-depth knowledge of dealing with large IT systems.
  • Ideally, you have already acquired knowledge in the area of storage services and storage components from various manufacturers
  • Knowledge of the security environment is advantageous.
  • You are used to thinking in a networked and process-oriented manner and have the ability to structure and convince in a solution-oriented manner.
  • You have a genuine interest in being customer focused and solving our customers' problems.
  • You like to pass on your knowledge and let others benefit from your knowledge and experience.
  • You work precisely and solution-oriented, enjoy teamwork and communicate on an equal level with different contacts.
  • You can understand complex technical issues and business rules, abstract essential points and express yourself precisely orally and in writing.
